Prominence

I edited several templates before noticing the directive to read The Rules. “How to Edit this Page” is too obscure to prevent well-intentioned participants from breaking The Rules, most of which are sound as stated. (The remainder of The Rules need but a tweak.)

I wonder how to bring The Rules to greater prominence. I wonder how to automate enforcement of The Rules. MediaWiki, help us!

I could be wrong, but I think you made the edit on a page before I (got around to) including the "How to Edit this Page" link, which shows up in the page's table of contents where it's included, and I think it's a little more obvious there.

As for improving the situation, at the moment I have my hands full trying to get my blogs prepared for the WellDesignedUrls.org blog (along with the other things I'm trying to do to put food on the table) so I'm thinking I'll put solving this problem off to see just how big of a problem it becomes. A person only needs to be told once to review The Rules before posting…

OTOH, if you can find something about this over at the Mediawiki Users forums (I also asked the question here) and it's easy to implement, I'll definitely do it.
